Name That Character!

  • Mood:

G'afternoon.

The challenge was to take the following and Name That Character!

5 ft. 11 in.; Sandy brown hair, blue eyes, pale complexion that freckles in the summer, rather than tans if the sunscreen is forgotten; Easy-going temperament until Enough is Enough, and then Hoo Boy, watch the fur fly; Hard worker; loyal friend; allergic to anything with fur, but is an unashamed animal lover willing to pay through the nose for one of them silly furless cats; Is the middle child of 3 siblings– and older brother and a younger sister; Listens to "Classic" Country Western– Think Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, Johnny Cash, Marty Robbins; and thinks the funniest thing in the world is the word "Balderdash."

Dayne Gearner

His name is Ben.

Ben is an Oklahoma Cowboy who has to work in the city to pay for his life, but lives for the time when he leaves the city and can be free once more.

Muncy Chapman

Millie Gregory is a teller in the local bank. She feels a strong attraction to Jeff Grant, the town’s only veterinarian. When she asks for a tour of his modern animal clinic and kennels, her allergies kick in, and her visit is cut short by an inconvenient bout of sneezing.

Her older brother Stan, the drummer in a small country band, invites his lead guitar player home for dinner, hoping to whet his friend’s appetite for his pretty sister Millie.

But Millie’s little sister Meg lives in a romantic world of fantasy. She knows of Millie’s secret yearnings, and tries in comical ways to help her. She spends most of her allowance on allergy pills she thinks will help her sister.

Learning of Stan’s plan to bring home the guitar player, Meg invites Jeff for dinner on the same night, and "accidentally" douses him with the garden hose when he comes up the walk, "just to make sure he rids himself of any traces of animal dander."

Embarrassed by her siblings’ efforts in her behalf, Millie leaves the house and goes to a movie before the guests arrive, leaving Stan and Meg to entertain Jeff on their own.

JoAnn Carter

You’ve just met carpenter, Kenny Jones. He works as a foreman at AJ’s Construction Co., where he loves to crank up his country music from a trusty old boom box as he works.

His niece shares his love for animals, so for her birthday he went out of his way to find her a cat they could both enjoy.

In the pet shop is where he meets Christina, the love of his life. Now the question is, how should he go about convincing her of that?

Meg Allison

Her name is Amanda Draper, her friends call her Mandy. She’s a research librarian for the library branch at the small town of Draper’s Mill, VA, set in the Blue Ridge Mountains where she’s lived all her life. Her story would be a time-travel romance in which her hero is an 18th century Englishman and police detective who often says, as luck would have it, "Balderdash!"

Susan Atwood

This is Patsy; she’s named after the singer. She’s working as a waitress at a cafe in Lubbock, TX, to put herself through nursing school... if she can pass the anatomy class where the grumpy, old professor’s favorite word is "balderdash." She’d rather be a vet, but there’s the fur issue.

Patsy falls for a fellow student who tutors her in anatomy, but he had a military commitment after he graduates, and she can’t leave her three younger siblings with their alcoholic father.

Deb Kinnard

This is Gina Holford. She’s an early-childhood teacher at a local private school in West Texas, and she doesn’t make much money. But she adores her kids, so the lack of financial security doesn’t bother her. She’s fun to be around but tends to stumble into situations that would flummox most of us. There are "Gina stories" in her family that she hates to hear re-told—so of course her brother relates them whenever he can. Gina’s the main character in a chick-lit, the first of a series set in Ohlsen Creek, TX. The next stories belong to her brother, who finally gets his comeuppance, and her sister who thinks she’s got it all together until she meets "Mister Uh-Oh."

Laura Hamby

Darlene Belden, being allergic to anything with fur, naturally works at a no-kill animal shelter. She's learned to live with the constant post nasal drip, sneezing and watering eyes, oh, and yes, the monthly visits to her allergist, Dr. Kevin Gossett. She's taught the animals in her care to love her music, and the shelter's permanent resident-- a parrot named Balderdash-- sings along with Patsy Cline's *I Fall to Pieces.* Despite her siblings urging her to find a job she's literally  not allergic to, Darlene can't bring herself to abandon the animals or her quest for a furless cat. Besides, she rather enjoys her allergy appointments and oogling Dr. Kevin...

Cindy Green

This character would be named Henry Fordman He has recently taken over his father’s construction company and is the brother of the heroine of the story, Liz Fordman in a romantic comedy. His sister came to visit one day on a job site and got tangled up with Jack Cabot ending with them both getting knocked into a vat of cement. Henry comes to the aid of both his sister and his friend throughout the story.

Gina Hartoog

Lorinda Levy is a stenographer at the local courthouse in a small mid-western town. Lorinda moonlights as a private detective. For months now she has been investigating the murder of her best-friend Besse-Jane Hicks. Then Lorinda stumbles on some vital clues that lead her straight to Nashville.

Josh Lockwood

Her name is Amanda Dickens … Mandy … and she works as a waitress in a truck stop just outside Lake Charles, Louisiana. She’s had hundreds of propositions from truckers passing through and bad boy bikers, heard every pickup line known to mankind, yet still believes that one day her Mister Right will come tooling in on a big eighteen-wheeler and take her away to a Happy Ever After. I see this being written as a romantic comedy, possibly as a blue-light special chick-lit, and, no, I couldn’t begin to write it.

Margaret Callaghan

Meet Joey Grainger. Joey is a computer whiz kid who offers a home installation and repair service. Given his allergy, it’s inevitable that every home he visits has a menagerie of pets, almost all of the furry variety, and equally inevitably, when he does finally find the woman of his dreams, she is the owner of a pet rescue centre who regularly brings work, in the form of new born and abandoned kittens, home.

Denise Patrick

Steve owns a bar in Phoenix, Arizona. He enjoys the guys that come into the bar on a regular basis, especially the bikers. Even though he’s not a biker himself, he’s not intimidated by all the leather. After all the BACA guys are great big teddy bears. I’d probably put him in a setting with a heroine who has a couple of children already and the ex was an alcoholic. Nothing like having his livelihood be a major conflict.

Judy Jarvie

Name – Fenella Myer

Job – Bank Clerk

A story about a woman who dreams of being a country singer and after a weekend excursion to Nashville jacks in the day job to pursue her goal. Along the way she finds a ‘singing coach’ called Rex who she fancies considerably and a ‘manager’ who rips her off and takes all her savings.

Robin Bayne

I would make this character an easy-going beta hero named Joshua Williams, who has always been slightly concerned about his sensitive skin. His older brother is slightly taller than Josh, but that hasn’t bothered Josh since they get along so well. He runs a horse farm with his younger sister Natalie and they attend rodeos year round. The locals think of Josh as someone they can depend on, and often ask him for help with their animals. Recently, Carrie Martin has moved back to town and Josh is hesitant about seeing his first love once again.

Loree Lough

As the story opens, battle-weary Dave Prentice has just returned from Iraq. With no family of his own, he’s determined to help his youngest sister raise her kids, despite the resentment of their neglectful alcoholic dad. The farm is a mess, the house is falling apart, and Tess is a mental wreck when he arrives. It takes most of the summer, but with the able assistance of his brother-in-law’s dad, Dave manages to turn chaos into order. It isn’t until he meets Tess’s best friend that he’s put to the ultimate test: Allison, too, is a returning war veteran. Tough and no-nonsense, she attempts to change easy-going Dave, and insists that he take a firmer hand with Tess’s kids. Can Dave prove that a tender touch wins hearts…even one hardened by war?

Nell Dixon

Nigel Nerd, lives in a basement and works as a janitor at the local high school. He’s witness to a murder in a suspense story but is killed before he can spill all that he knows.
